Happy Fathers Day
19 June 2022
Ah, Father’s Day. A day to pay homage to the men that raised us. The men that picked us up from teenage discos. The men that let us away with things with a whisper of, “Okay, but don’t let on to your mother”, and the men that we always relied on for 20 quid when we were a tad short.
Today, we’re raising a My Townland glass to our fathers.

The father’s that are the life and soul of the party, the father’s that don’t say much but always show their love in their own way, and the father’s that are no longer with us, shining down on Ireland from above.
Here at Irish Homelands, we have a particular appreciation for the Irish daddy, and their zest for storytelling, townland-investigation and appreciation for their home turf. We’ve all been subject to what we call, a ‘Townland Questioning’ from an Irish father.
“And who are you now?”
“Who do you belong to?”
“Where are you from?”
“And who’s your mother and father?”
“Awk sure, I have ye now!”
The Irish need for establishing who we are, where our roots lie and what links we have to one another has been carried throughout the ages. The Irish community’s need for togetherness, connection and discovery of heritage and lineage is unique to the emerald isle and our parents are the pioneers that keep this tradition going.
Aside from our father’s need to investigate every person that comes through the door, Irish fathers also offer much more to family life.
They’re often a familial rock that stands tall during times of turbulence and hardship. They’re the go-getters, doers and makers that keep families afloat. They’re the ones that keep family history alive, remind us of the voices and faces that are no longer with us, and the humans that keep our feet rooted firmly to the ground.
So of course, on days like Father’s Day, we want to show them our deep love and appreciation for all that they do.
But here’s the thing.
There’s only so many bottles of aftershave, pairs of socks and pints of beer one can offer their father. And they can be extremely difficult to buy for! That’s where we come in.
An Irish Homelands print is an amazing gift to show your father not only tht you care, but also that you actually have been listening over the past few years!! What we love so much about our prints, is that they not only make the receiver feel appreciated, but they also start conversations, preserve important memories and give families opportunities to learn about the past, hear stories and remember precious moments that might not have been shared in years or even decades.
Gift your father a print of their own townland, a print of the townland their ancestors hailed from, or if you have moved to a new townland, why not gift them a print of it? Give them a little piece of you to cherish forever.
A few of our customers have bought two prints, one of the townland their mother is from, and one of the townland their father is from, to display alongside each other. We thought that was just lovely.
It’s so important for us to go the extra mile when it comes to showing appreciation for the ones we love. Give your father a timeless, meaningful gift full of Irish pride today.
We bet you he’ll love it.
